Noboribetsu station is sandwiched between the tunnel, Ranpokke tunnels (\u862d\u6cd5\u83ef\u30c8\u30f3\u30cd\u30eb) set in another direction of Fushikobetsu tunnel. It&#8217;s a bit short, <TIME datetime=\"2015-05-09\">Today<\/TIME>, I went to here. Start is Noboribetsu station. It&#8217;s one of the Muroran main line that opened early in Hokkaido prefecture(\u5317\u6d77\u9053, hokkaid\u014d), and nice appearance of station building which have welcomed visitor to spa since 1935.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509170146DSC_1797l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509170146DSC_1797s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509170146DSC_1797.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nAnother direction of Fushikobetsu tunnel from Noboribetsu station, the tunnel there is in Cape Ranpokke (\u862d\u6cd5\u83ef\u5cac, ranpokke misaki) pop out to the Pacific Ocean.\r\nBy the way, Ranpokke sounds strange for Japanese.\r\nUntil 1931, Tomiura area (\u5bcc\u6d66) behind cape called ran-pok (\u30e9\u30f3\u30dd<SMALL>\u30af<\/SMALL>) or ran-pok-ke (\u30e9\u30f3\u30dd\u30c3\u30b1) . It means &#8220;under slope&#8221; or &#8220;under slope place&#8221; in Ainu language. It&#8217;s a relic that is the era of the no tunnel, climb and down the steep slope in the cape by walk.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509171518DSC_1799-2l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509171518DSC_1799-2s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509171518DSC_1799-2.JPG\" \/><\/A> <A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/2015050902l.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/2015050902s.png\" alt=\"2015050902.png\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nThe old line branches this side of the tunnels.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172512DSC_1819-2l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172512DSC_1819-2s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509172512DSC_1819-2.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nThe old line pass under the old national road. The overbridge is drawn in the topographic map, but this bridge was removed already.\r\nThis bridge named Ranpokke overbridge (\u862d\u6cd5\u83ef\u8de8\u7dda\u6a4b, ranpokke kosenky\u014d) was built in 1932. It was a rare bridge cause semi-through girder and skew bridge.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509171920DSC_1805-2l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509171920DSC_1805-2s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509171920DSC_1805-2.JPG\" \/><\/A> <A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/2015050903l.png\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/2015050903s.png\" alt=\"2015050903.png\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nRanpokke tunnels there is behind bamboo grasses and trees. \r\nIt near from road comparatively but hidden by trees, so I think drivers are hard to notice the tunnels.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172030DSC_1807l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172030DSC_1807s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509172030DSC_1807.JPG\" \/><\/A> <A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172102DSC_1808l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172102DSC_1808s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509172102DSC_1808.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nPictures line up like stereopsis from here. \r\nthe left picture is sea side, inbound. the right is mountain side, outbound. Muroran main line (At the time called Hokkaido tanko tetudo Muroran line (\u5317\u6d77\u9053\u70ad\u9271\u9244\u9053\u5ba4\u862d\u7dda) ) opened on August 1st, 1892. At the time it used left brick tunnel only, because Muroran line at the time was single-track.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172320DSC_1816l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172320DSC_1816s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509172320DSC_1816.JPG\" \/><\/A> <A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172154DSC_1810l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509172154DSC_1810s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509172154DSC_1810.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nEra single-track, Ranpokke tunnel start construction on November 6th, 1890, it&#8217;s same day of Fushikobetsu tunnel, completion on December 20th, 1891. Long Fushikobetsu tunnel completion February 18th, 1892 with a delay. \r\nThis line is important line because it connecting the coal mine and port, so change to double-track was early, this tunnel was completed on July 10th, 1926. Fushikobetsu tunnel about 2 weeks with a delay. Why Fushikobetsu built with brick, meanwhile Ranpokke built with concrete? Details unknown because there is no material of at that time.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509173908DSC_1843l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509173908DSC_1843s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509173908DSC_1843.JPG\" \/><\/A> <A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509173658DSC_1839l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509173658DSC_1839s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509173658DSC_1839.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nI looked back at Noboribetsu direction at near Tomiura side mouth. Both tunnel change cross sections, and material change to concrete.\r\nlater here shed added. It was completion on August 12nd, 1963 by the nameplate.<\/P>\r\n<HR class=\"pause\">\r\n<P><A href=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509174024DSC_1847l.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"colorbox\"><IMG src=\"https:\/\/morigen.net\/blog\/image\/2015\/05\/09\/20150509174024DSC_1847s.JPG\" alt=\"20150509174024DSC_1847.JPG\" \/><\/A><BR>\r\nShed part, inbound has window and I can see the ocean behind the road. \r\nIt is filled wire mesh, but many places broken, and countless footprints cover inside of tunnel ground.
