Crisis of the Okayama bridge

In fall of 1936, military exercises of the army ware held in Hokkaido (北海道), simultaneously the infrastructure of road was prepared. Okayama bridge (岡山橋, okayama bashi) was built in Iwamizawa city (岩見沢市, iwamizawa shi), it’s the bridge that I watched today.Steel arch bridges were built only 3, on pre war time in Hokkaido. Okayama bridge is one of it. It was national road No.12 in when opened, in 1969, national road change route and the bridge was a city road. It closed from 2008 by deterioration, but it wasn’t removed, it arrived at the 75 years old this year. The bridge has so history, but I heard to it will remove ultimately, so I’ll go to see the last days of the brige.

It was a misunderstanding. Not remove but repair. You startled me. However, the responsibility rests with not researched me

The slab was removed already, the arch is untouched.

I had inside shown, the slab was removed completely, and reveal these true character of the steel bridge. It’s tied arch that tie end of arch rib. And it has rivet that I hardly see recently.

Repair will end in spring of 2012, so I want to come other day.

I came back after the repair.

It was opened, but it was restricted height and weight, special vehicle can’t use this.

Newels was removed, the railing was rebuilt. When repairing, the slab was removed completely, so it was rebuilt too. But arch rib is untouched quite.

Material that under road surface was repainted. Rivets are leave alone, I can’t find any bolts. It means didn’t change or add materials. It looks only remove rust and repainted. Why it was closing because no damage to the arch and here?

It’s tied arch, so shoe transmits load perpendicularly.

However, shoe of opposite shore inclinatory, and coagulated rigidly by conclete. It not not usually admittedly. Factor of the bridge closed seems to it.
